A Gathering of Light and Life and an Explosion of Spontaneity
My Experience
In the fast-paced world we live in, the simple, profound joys of human connection often fade into the background. The Aurora Humans Project is a collective opportunity to pause, gather under the ethereal glow of the aurora, and share in the vast, shimmering tapestry of human experience. It is at times like these, if I am to borrow from the joys of being a wallflower, that I feel infinite. My thin skin containing a majority of the water in which I stood invisible to the cosmic wonders. The Earth itself no match for the rapidity and little understood muons raining from the sky as they stimulate the light in which we bask.
WOW! What a night for me and the world. Standing in the water, surrounded by friends, I was overwhelmed with emotion as I watched the aurora. The energy that sustains us and the miracle that is life were palpable. The gathering of people around this beauty was a life goal ticked off for me, and the joy shared by the community is nothing short of inspiring.
It’s a rare privilege to witness the aurora at such low latitudes with this intensity. Having dreamed of this moment since learning about cosmic rays. Tonight, the gift of life and the magic of the universe felt visceral and myself infinite. I’m building a platform where people can upload their photos and feelings from around the world this evening, the golden hours after midnight. Giving people the oppportunity to contribute to a collective repository of images and stories. Much love to you all!
App Details
- Streamlit Application: This prototype app will empower people from all over the world to share their aurora photos and captions, creating a collaborative and dynamic gallery. Hopefully with time it can move into a more robust platform.
- Website: The website will host the public gallery, providing a dedicated space for all humans and astronomy fans to explore and celebrate this global phenomenon.
- Gallery: The gallery will curate images and text submitted by contributors worldwide.
- Dataset: The images will form a large dataset from a number of perspectives, weather patterns, humans, emotions & anything at the limits of human creativity.
- Models: Diffusion models and other machine learning techniques will transform these images and captions into artistic and experimental projects.
- Roadmap: Try to capture as many of these as possible and create a tapestry of the human collective.
Shared Human Experience
Few events unite humanity like auroras. They possess a magical quality that transcends boundaries and perspectives, bringing us all together in shared awe. Contributions to the Aurora Humans Project mean more than just uploading images or writing captions—they represent the unification of diverse perspectives from around the world, each offering a unique lens through which to view this cosmic wonder.

Developers, artists, and dreamers will collaborate to build models that deepen our understanding of these images, exploring the aurora’s beauty and meaning through countless cultural lenses.
